Brassica rapa Standard 1-33

The standard stock 1-33, represents the standard, wild type, form and performance for rapid-cycling Brassica rapa, Rbr.  Plants have been selected from the Rbr base population, Bpo, 1-1, to begin flowering 14 days after sowing.  When grown under optimal conditions, harvestable seeds are produced 40 days after planting.  Although Standard is relatively uniform for flowering time and overall appearance, traits show a range of variation that can be quantified including: hair number, purple anthocyanin color, plant height, etc.

Expression of purple anthocyanin, Pan, in stems and other plant parts varies from moderate to low, compared to stocks 1-67, Pan (8), and 1-77, Pan (8), that have been selected for high expression of Pan.  Standard is phenotypically plastic, actively responding in growth, development and reproduction to variations in the environment.
