Plants of stock 1-145 have elongated hypocotyls and internodes. Plants are significantly taller and spindlier than standard 1-33 and need staking to be held upright.
Plants are lighter green and have smaller cotyledons and leaves than standard, 1-33.
Ein originated as a naturally occurring mutant, visible as noticeably taller seedlings. Ein is the result of a null mutation affecting phytochrome B.
Ein is associated with higher levels of gibberellins in plant tissues, and reduced expression of purple anthocyanin, Pan (5) even though in the development of the stock, the recurrent parent through several backcrosses has been the high Pan, 1-67, Pan (8).
This stock was selected and bred from the male fertile plants of stock 1-130 that have been mass pollinated through at least two generations from which male steriles have been rogued. Thus 1-145 is genetically similar to 1-130 except it will have fewer than 15% plants that are Mst2, mst2/mst2.
